As the winter season approaches, we would like to remind our Connecticut based employees of Gerber’s policy and other general guidelines regarding inclement weather.

An email will be sent out confirming a closure, delayed opening, or early closure. We have also set up a phone number which employees can call to find out if there is a delayed opening or closing, (860) 870-2837; this will be updated by 5:15 am. We will no longer broadcast closures or delayed openings on the local news and radio stations.

Our facilities crew and the external contractor will do their best to keep walkways/parking lots passable ahead of the storm. However, please use common sense when selecting footwear as melting/refreezing throughout the day may cause walkways/parking lots to become slippery. We have salt buckets at all the employee entrances, please spread in any areas where needed.

Site Closure and Delayed Openings

In the event of a closure or delay for any reason, employees generally will be notified via email. We will make every effort to make delay or closure decisions as early as possible although weather conditions do evolve and change. If the Company closes due to inclement weather, employees are not expected to report to the facility unless specifically required to by their manager for the purpose of supporting critical functions. Employees may be asked to work from home, whether the Company is closed or not, if they are authorized or able to do so, and the time spent working from home will be counted as work time. If you expect you may need to work from home, please plan accordingly.

If you are unable to work due to site closure, either for a full day or part of a day, employees will be paid for the scheduled hours of work. If the Company is open and the employee chooses not to report to work or arrives late or leaves early, the employee must use paid time off or take the time unpaid. Employees who have pre-scheduled paid time off when the Company closes will still be required to use that scheduled paid time off.

Thank you for your support and stay safe this winter!
